I would think the apartment should handle it fine as far as damaging the floor. The aquarium sits on carpet and may be why the other wood stand is unlevel but the 40g breeder stand i have on my 40g seems a lot studier and sits level as is on the carpet. I bought it and the stand as a package. I have the thing set up on carpet and it seems to be a little wobbly. Ended up getting a poly. I was lucky in that the carpet was not wall to wall and had no pad under it.

The 7g has the mat attached and it came with a acrylic lid. My hardwod floor dried but had a permanent discoloration. The underpad is essentially a big flat sponge. A 90 gallon tank weighs about 3 4 fat guys worth once full.

The 4g came with an appropriately sized mat but loose and the lid was glass with a handle i had to stick on but i couldn t because it didn t fit the tank. The flat bottom may be floating the stand on the carpet like a snow shoe. Even on the plushest 1972 avocado green shag that tank is going to settle right in and squash the carpet and pad right down. The carpet padding will need to be removed and likely discarded if it is still in place.
